I packed up early on Saturday morning and headed north, to Loon Lake, for the annual Women Only Weekend (W.O.W.) with my P. family female kin. After a long 24 hours of feeling out of sorts (accompanied by a low grade temperature and lots of throwing up) Emmett was back to his old self by Friday night, and more than in the clear on Saturday morning. While I was somewhat tempted to stay home with my boys, Dave encouraged me to get away overnight, and I knew that I would regret missing the time shared with my sisters, aunts, cousins, and cousins-once-removed...
As always, we shared laughter, tears, and sweet, sweet treats. I'm still a little sore from a rather intense beach volleyball match. My favorite sweater smells like our campfire, over which we shared some delicious wine, policitcal concerns, childhood memories, dreams for the future of our families, both individual and shared. We laughed at the expense of the men that we all know and treasure and love, despite their hairy chests over our breakfast tables and faulty (selective?) listening skills. My time away would have been perfect if my mom and sister Casey would have been able to join Jessica, Meggan, and I in the Perry P. Camp portion of the W.O.W.
There's always next year...

Meggan, squeezing in as much fishing and hunting into a 24 hour period as possible, and the ruthless beach volleyball game (check out my air!!)
We gather together. Reading, knitting, chatting.
Some scenes from around camp: Our fire pit, the chapel constructed almost entirely of recycled materials, and Fort W.O.W.
Always time for eating, homeworking, and backrubbing.
Our wisest cousin, and Jessica and I, snuggled in for the first time this season in our sweaters.

That sounds like a absolutely wonderful time and to be honest, I'm a little jealous!
What a lovely tradition to be a part of. And you two in your sweaters. We're still sweaty over here. The weather has cooled a little about 28 degrees now. And not so humid. A welcome change for those of us who are pregnant.
WOW weekend sounds amazing! I want to start a WOW weekend. Ironically the video game nate is incredibly obsessed with is also called WOW... :)
Yes, this is quite the picture of fun girl time. I think in a few years you'll be ready for your feature in "O" magazine. It looks like you had such an amazing time. Love the picture of you and Jessica. And I am super jealous of the back rubbing part :-)
