Now, if you've been with me for a while you'll recall that my first attempt at making a very cool kids' birthday cake happened this spring, in celebration of Theo's 3rd year. It was a snake, and it was pretty great. I was inspired by my sister Jessica, who had made him a lion the year before and whose cake-making repertoire includes a dinosaur, a pirate's hat, a bathtub full of rubber duckies... (what am I missing??)
Now, when my sister-in-law's children Abby and Sam saw the snake I had made for Theo, they were both bound and determined to have their own fancy birthday cake. Enter: Wendy's adorable fish bowl.
A couple of weeks later we headed to Jessica's house for Lucy's birthday celebration. This ballerina cake has to be her most incredible creation thus far. Complete with a fluffy-cotton- candy-tu-tu! I mean, come on!! She's set the bar pretty high... Sam's birthday is up next, and I can't wait to see what Wendy comes up with.
I have to include a few photos from both parties. First, Theo, Emmett, and their S family cousins and friends at Abby's bash.
Next, Theo, Lucy, and her friend Lydia dove into Lucy's birthday present from her parents: a bag full of princess clothes found on Craigslist!!
And, Nora wanted to dress up, too...
And, finally, my Emmett. Just eating cake.

oh, and i'm seriously impressed by the fishbowl.
love the cakes. i haven't done any creative cake baking since i lived in madison. not sure if we have access to all the ingredients. i'll have to show ella the ballerina cake. she loves everything pink, fluffy and 'rina...
oh, and i agree. fishbowl - totally cool.
my paul is married so it wasn't him. I think Jessica's repertoire includes some other dandies, but I can't think of them. Jessica???
These cakes are amazing! I'm totally going to use them next season of the Katie Brown Workshop!
