it's no wonder...

if i'd ever questioned before how a simple snowfall~ slight, wet, fleeing~ could turn a memorized backyard into a winter wonderland, made new again, recharged, marvelous... i got my answer, assuredly, today.

i carried theo downstairs this morning, still snuggled into my shoulder and sleepy, careful not to let his gaze rest on any window before perching him in front of our patio door, and drawing back the curtains for a big reveal...

even before i could speak, as i reached for my camera, he declared, "now, mama, it's winter!!" and quickly started to undress. knowingly, i asked him what he was doing, and he hurriedly replied, "we have to get ready fast, mama, before the snow blows all away!"

between time outside with papa in the morning and mama in the afternoon, our little snow man took in over three hours of the fresh, white stuff today. dave braved dressing both boys up in cold gear (first time coordinating the doning of snowpants this season~not an easy feat on your own... for a man!!) and rolled up a snow ball the size of our front stoop.

this afternoon, while emmett was napping, theo and i headed out on an adventure of our own...

quickly, we were joined by a, and then q, and then s and m and l and grandma c, too! (the whole gang!) soon enough, emmett rolled out of bed, right into his snow suit!

while darkness set in, we shoveled and sledded and built (and broke down) and laughed and wondered. in our winter wonderland.

Wasn't it awesome?? My kids are passed out! Julia can't wait to build a HUGE snowman and Chewie was thrilled to have a brother and sister that love to play in the snow.

i bet i got my 4 dressed this morning in the time dave did 2. again, no easy feat, but so worth it. nora loved it so much, she even got a face full from marvin's wayward snowblower.... wiped it off with her mitten, and had a huge smile underneath!! she was mesmerized by the snow today.

hmmmm, jessica, emmett was a little less enthusiastic. not happy about trying to walk in the white stuff with his big, cumbersome snow boots on. i did a lot of carrying.

the photos in this post of the serenity of your backyard are beautiful. it must feel much more like christmas is coming for you than it does here. i'm in capris today (my wardrobe options are getting limited). i'll show buddy and ella these pics...they'll be jealous. i feel like a world away when i read this post.

wow! that first photo is amazing. I miss snow. It's possibly the only thing I miss about living where it gets cold though!

Wow! That's incredible! I'm sitting listening to torrential rain outside as I read this... I'd much prefer white stuff!

Sounds like your boys really enjoyed themselves. Nice post.

We're getting on a plane to go to MI today and I have a feeling that my first snowfall this year will be in the midwest rather than in the city. Just as well--it gets slushy and gray out here so fast. Now I just need some little ones to dress up and take outdoors...How did you guys get children again?
