what, you've never heard of it before?!
i'll never forget our second post placement visit from our social worker, j.d.
she was over around breakfast time and had the unfortunate opportunity to witness what the morning hour was (and still is, sometimes...) like at our house. one of my first (of many) indicators of rubin's strong will was his absolute. refusal. to sit down in his high chair. upon seeing his early tendency toward adamancy, j.d. clued us in: rubin (my son!) was definitely a korean prince.
she guessed that he never, ever, ever heard the word no (he laughs at me now every time i say "anio!") from his foster mother. quite the contrary, she guessed that he was very quickly given whatever he wanted whenever he asked for it. basically, while loving him to pieces, his foster mother laid the foundation for the creation of my littlest monster.
recently, that monster has begun to rear his ugly (adorable) head around here. again.
it's like i have a growth, some days, at my knees.
with very scratchy fingernails
and an extremely loud voice
quite adept at yelling "no!" and "mine!!" and "mama!!!"
this shot shows my view every single time i looked down this weekend.
it says, "pick me up, woman. now!"
and, if i refuse, you might ask?
well, picture this:
arms flailing.
loud squeals.
full blown temper tantrum (read: falling to the ground and shaking uncontrollably.)
recently, similar behavior is exhibited whenever it's time for a diaper change and every. time. someone has to get buckled into his car seat.
and i'm NOT talking about theo or emmett...
that's a whole other story.

Oh, Rubin... don't be naughty to mama.
And THANK YOU for not saying "a whole nother". Sigh...
wow - I knew Rubin and Daniel had a lot in common and it looks like this is one more thing!! Daniel is major mama's boy and is starting to get very upset if he doesn't get his way. I have a korean princess...maybe a prince too. Hang in there!
But can't wait to see all of you soon!!
HAHA--my Kaz prince, at the age of 7 and 60 lbs still wants me to carry him around! He has trouble with the word "no" also.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one to experience tantrums at diaper changes and being told no! Joel is just starting to do this--not fun! It's so hard to be mad when they are so cute, though. :)
Sounds like that Korean Prince of yours could be on a k-drama! Oh, but he's sooooo cute, how can you resist him??
We know all about the 'Korean Prince Syndrome' around here too!
In fact,I have many similar photos, that has been waiting for a 'truth be told on tuesday' post.
Thankfully, we don't have the flailing on the floor or the 'no' but I'm sure it's coming.
Good thing you are cute Rubin! ;-)
While we don't have the primary issue in this post, we do have the car seat issue. To the point where I won't go places some days because I can't deal with the fight that will occur. Sad, huh?!
Oh Rubin! Good thing he's cute, right? X is a major foot stomper and back archer, grrrr.
good thing he's so distracted by his cousins over here that i haven't seen the full on act yet. (although he was at my knees in the kitchen an awful lot yesterday, trying to hid from nora)
p.s. i think maybe after today you will be able to do your give-away
we have that here too... Korean Prince syndrome - interesting...
You have the Korean Prince. We have the African American Prince. ;)
Oh boy...I really hope that we don't have a case of this on our hands too. Atticus seems to be making a similar face to Rubin's when he's not getting his way. We're still learning what exactly he's wanting, but I know that face!
Oh dear....
That is one active cling-on.
And I thought the nasty varicose vein coming out of my leg was bad.
hahahaha
JK....
He's just so damn cute! But I'm sure this stage is VERY trying....hang in there hon.
Ohhhhh.....I have never heard of the Korean Prince thing, but it totally makes sense! I wonder if I will have a little Korean princess on my hands? :)
Anderson is going thru a similar stage, I see lots of fits when I do not carry him around all day. (the nerve of me!) He is HEAVY, too. Hang in there!! At least they are cute - :).
makes me feel better that we are not the only ones! i feel for you! good thing those little Korean boys are so cute!
Oh do I know that face all too well! Noah and Rubin sound one in the same. I've actually gotten kicked in the face a few times while trying to change his diaper and change clothes. Yeah, good times.
Your little prince is still quite a cutie though. :)
This post has me laughing...only because it is ALL TOO TRUE. We have seen some evidence of the Korean Prince Complex around here too. Starting to see more & more all the time as he grows into an independent-thinking & acting toddler. The Korean program specialists at our adoption agency said this, "Korean babies are high maintenance." She meant this is in the nicest way possible...because the foster mothers (foster families) are so awesome...and give these children anything they want...they are not used to being told NO.
Great post. I might have to write something similar one of these days...especially as our Korean Prince develops even more. Sigh.
