Because we can...

It's just. time. for another giveaway here at This Family Squish...

I've been thinking about it for awhile...
(in recognition of our referral anniversary)
(in celebration of the Lunar New Year)
(when we reached 25,000 blog hits)
(yada, yada, yada!)

Obviously, all of these milestones came and passed me by, and I never got my rear in gear fast enough to put a giveaway together.

Now, it's just. time.

Thanks to a note from my friend Laura about a month ago, and after last week when I put together this post about Pam & Lora and Erin, I got to thinking...

Why not feature the creative talents of some of my favorite women with future This Family Squish giveaways? I have a pool of plenty to choose from and I'm all about showing them off to all of you...

So I quickly contacted my friend Ellen, who I met in 1999 when we were both students working for UW-Madison's SAFE nighttime services. Ellen is the mama to two fantastic little boys who works for a local non-profit and runs Half-Pint Resale in her free time. Ellen's blog is one of my all-time-favorites, from it's Half-Pint Printables to it's Thrift Tips...

When Emmett was born, Ellen delivered black bean burgers to my doorstep and the most adorable, handmade "upcycled" jersey knot hat. Last week I asked Ellen if she had a hat that might work for my giveaway and in less than 48 hours she made one especially for me to give away to one of you!

The boys, of course, were more than happy to model Ellen's creation:

(detail)

Ellen doesn't typically create hats to fit children over 2 years of age, but when I told her that
1.) many of my readers have babes approaching
their terrific (the power of positive thinking) twos AND
2.) some of my readers have monster babies with ginormous heads
she made me a size 2 PLUS hat!

As you can see, this baby fits all three of the boys beautifully.
Like it was made for each of them.
So whether your babe's head is peanut sized OR watermelon sized, this hat is the perfect spring cap for you!!

In addition to Ellen's hat, the boys and I also decided that we wanted to share one of our favorite books with a lucky reader.

For Christmas 2007 Theo and Emmett received a copy of Roseanne Thong's Round is a Mooncake from my dear friend Norbyah. It is an awesome book of shapes with an Asian theme that is one of our most loved reads. If you aren't familiar with Thong or illustrator Grace Lin, (and if you aren't lucky enough to win the copy that we just purchased for you on Am*azon!) you just. must. check them out!

Now, to enter:

All you have to do is leave us a comment below. And, please, tell us one thing you are looking forward to doing this summer. We enjoyed 60 degrees here today, and we are dreaming of warm weather capers!

(A winner will be chosen on Friday March 26th...
just in time for spring break!!)

First of all, I love the new layout of your blog. Second, you have some amazingly talented friends. And third, I am looking forward to outdoor adventures with Xavier and hopefully a few runs with you.

p.s. we can still hang out even though you don't like snakes ;)

Oh, wow. I don't even need to tell you how I feel about that hat... do I?! And the book?? That's been on my wish list! Eek.

What am I looking forward to!? Hmmm... there's several big things I can't *disclose* yet. But, I'm also looking forward to the simple pleasures of just _being_ in the summer. Deciding on a whim to hit a park, or picnic on the beach, or run through a sprinkler. Oh summer... I can't wait for you!

Bless your heart for thinking of those of us who have two year olds with giant melons! He has been wearing a boys' size 5-7 since he was born, I think. ;) I am soooo looking forward to heading to the zoo with Miles this summer. I think he's going to love being able to say all the animal names and do the animal sounds this year!!!

Wow...you have some very talented friends! Please count me in! ;)

What I'm looking forward to the most this summer is being able to be a mommy to Atticus. Going to the park, going for walks, going to the zoo...all of the fantastic family stuff we have been waiting years to do!

Oh! That hat is amazing! Each of your boys needs one as well. The color suits them all perfectly! :)

I can't wait for the end of July when my entire family ( parents, siblings, nieces and nephew and us of course! ) will be going to the shore together for a week. We rent a house right on the beach and always have a blast. This will be the first year for Glenn and I to be there as parents, and we can't wait!

I'm looking forward to taking Little D to the beach near our home...within walking distance. For YEARS (& YEARS) I've loved seeing kids having fun in the sand & the water...and now I finally get to take my OWN son there. Cannot wait!

Emily,
I am looking forward to traveling to SEOUL to pick up our beloved Michael! I'm also looking forward to countless hours in the sunshine and parks playing with Alex.
Thanks so much for your blog. I so enjoy it.
Michelle--the mother of one (and maybe two) boy who has a larger than average noggin.

Emily - You're the best.
Ellen - holy rats you are talented! Your blog is on my list to read now. Love the hat. Rock on in the nonprofit world. I know it's a battlefield ;)

So....What I am looking forward to doing this summer. A list.
1) Purchasing hilarious and hideous mumu's for summer pregnancy third trimester!
2) PAYING for pedicures instead of doing them myself because I won't be able to reach my feet.
3) Teaching Finn what the word "cankle" means
4) Eating 50 Rainbow cones
5) Spending time at the pool with my family and not being offended when someone yells, SHAMU when I cannonball in.

Love that hat, love the looks of that book - I'm totally in, too.

So, not a huge surprise here but this summer I am very much looking forward to being with Max. Whether that is going to get him this summer or just having him home by the time summer rolls around, I just can't wait. And Seattle in the summertime ROCKS! Sun's out until 10pm (oh wait, that's probably NOT a good thing for a baby...). Hmmm, but the weather's gorgeous and everyone's happy just being outside.

I'm so glad you have a blog because then at least I can catch up a little until we can do it in person! I love book suggestions, so thank you for that. And the hat is adorable.

This summer I'm looking forward to our family trip to Maine, a very special place for me and Paul. Last time we were there, we had no kids. So we are really looking forward to introducing our kids to Maine.
