Just recess, Mama.

The title of this blog post is the answer that I have been getting to the question, "What did you do at school today, Theo?" for the past two weeks now.

Recess. Just Recess.

I've left it alone mostly, figuring one of two things:
1.) They've only had recess or
2.) Recess has been so wonderful, it's the only thing he remembers.

(I realize that the true answer lies in the fact that he's 4. And a boy. And a little spacey, at times...)

Anyway, my patience has paid off and tonight I got this:

"Mama, we sang a song at school today that goes like this: 'Doom da da doom dee dooom doooooooom.'" (Just envision Theo semi-beatboxing this little diddy.)

Next, he said, "And when we were singing, we balanced bean bags on our shoulders. And then on our heads and on top of our feet."

NOW we're getting somewhere...

it's all in the questions you ask i've learned. i have a great poem from michael's teacher this year. and she gave us some advice. "what did you do today?" always got me "nothing." then, buddy's PE teacher said to ask "what was your favorite thing today?" and this year, buddy's teacher said, "did you draw a picture today?" "did you read a book today" or "did you sing a song?"

i love this post though. theo beatboxing...he'd like yo gabba gabba. ella does the beatboxing from that show.

I'm getting pretty much the same response. I've even tried to ask more open ended questions - such as "what was your favorite part of school today?" - the answer is THE SAME!! though tonite at dinner kaneu announced that his PE teacher is funny. you are right - we ARE getting somewhere!
