What's in a name?

Emmett: origin, German, means Strong Worker

Theodore: origin Greek, means Divine Gift

What a weekend!
Dave and I tackled our referral paperwork, literally doing it in shifts! I hope you'll forgive me my naivety when I says that I honestly had no idea there would be SO MUCH paper. Having to fill out the same forms ten times each, the number of items that needed to be notarized, needing witnesses, etc... Phew!! As happy as I was to have our referral in my hands, I'm glad that it's gone, now. One step closer to bringing our baby home!

With completing the paperwork came another honor that both Dave and I have been taking very seriously, since January 27th when we received our unofficial referral and looked at a photo of our baby boy for the very first time...  What name would we give this child?

Naming our son, this time, has been so much different, so much more difficult than it was when we chose names for Theo and Emmett.  Both of these boys, we knew from their beginning. They were born to us brand new, without any stories, without a history of middles and ends.  Both of these babies came to us without a very special name, already chosen for them by someone else. In Woobin's case, that someone else was his birth mother. Undoubtedly, she considered a name for our baby boy as seriously and lovingly as we did his brothers, who came to us before him. I could not, and would not take that away.

And, with the help of some of the most important people in our lives, we decided that nothing fit his story, nothing fit his beautiful face quite like

Rubin: origin Hebrew, meaning Behold, a son.

Behold, our son. Prominent (woo) and shiny (bin).
Rubin Andrew.

I love Rubin Andrew. It is so perfect. And I love how you've been thoughtful - and this is no surprise to me - of the name his birth mother gave him and that you've wanted to protect that. I can't wait to hear more about Rubin. Lots of love to you all.

Oh Emily! I just got the CHILLS reading the Hebrew meaning of Rubin.....behold indeed :) Love it...love it. Love you guys. YAY! Rubin Andrew.

p.s. when I told Nick of some of the concerns from the male sector of Rubin reminding one of a Reuben sandwich...his response was "Well at least it's a damn tasty sandwich" :) Thought you would enjoy that!
