I started Being Bugsie in December of 2005. The website was a wonderful gift from a friend who had a new baby boy of her own at the time, her own website dedicated to him (and new motherhood), and a dream of hooking all of her girlfriends up with their own online forum, so that we could all keep track of one another and our kin...
A lot has changed for me since then. When I first started writing, I let very few people know about my website. I was, honestly, a little bit embarassed by the fact that I had this "blog." I kept it's focus almost entirely on 8-month-old Theo. What he was eating, when he was sleeping (or, not...), how much he weighed, his sitting and scooting and (eventual) walking...
With time, my readership grew. I began to tell more family members and friends about Being Bugsie. I started writing about more than just the facts of Theo. Good books, movies, recipes, places to visit, people to see...
With more time, our family grew, too. And something that started out just for my oldest son somehow didn't feel right for us, anymore. It wasn't only about my Bug, anymore. It's about all of us, living together and loving one another and navigating our way, without any operating instructions, through this life we share as a family.
And so, it took me about a week to break my old website down. I saved everything, from the beginning. And, reading through it, looking at all of the photos and re-living all of the memories, was incredible... I'm so glad that I had it. That we have it to help us remember.
And I'm even more excited about starting again (not starting over), here. I feel renewed. With no restrictions and a fresh perspective. What follows is us, sometimes messy and squishy and crazy. Not always blissful and well-behaved or witty. But family, nonetheless.
Together for it all.
